Thanks so much for your splendid Taskbar Eliminator. When watching videos and stuff, it's annoying to have the Windows taskbar visible. As you know, Microsoft requires several steps to turn taskbar auto-hide on and off each time—and of course, it doesn't always work, because the taskbar has a mind of its own (apps trying to "notify" you, etc.).

Sheesh. After all, this is the 21st century. We don't have the flying bubble cars or rocket shoes, but we have most of the other stuff. And we want control of our own computers, dang it.

I finally found an app called Taskbar Activate (I dare you to find it, though—it's quite obscure) that worked well, but for some reason didn't hide the Start button. So I wrote my own Visual Basic app to do that (called, appropriately, Start Button Hider). Yes, I was resigned to having to run two apps to hide or show my own taskbar. I probably would've been more indignant, belligerent, etc., but it was something of a consolation knowing that Bill Gates was out there doing some very charitable stuff with his Windows dough (although whether it would've occurred to him to do so had Melinda not lassoed him is open to conjecture).

But now I have your superior app. It's perfect. Thanks again. At this point I feel compelled to say something about people who collect road cones. Don't ask me why. I'm sure they wouldn't know either. Cheers, Ander

I run the program at start up using a batch file that calls some other programs, too.

Instead of completely getting rid of the taskbar, it sometimes switches to Autohide, causing it to show up when I mouse over it. To fix this, I have to manually run "restore taskbar" and then again "eliminate task bar" to get rid of the taskbar. This defeats the purpose, because I want the program to reliably hide the taskbar witout having to go from computer to computer and solve issues manually.

The bat file ends as follows (note: Personal Activity Monitor puts a message in the taskbar, but I include a pause before running the Taskbar Eliminator):

So I want to look up the #SingleInstance in the help file, but I didn't get a help file with this mentioned. So I would really like to hear how to avoid the 'An older instance of this script is already running' message. Can you supply me with the answer and/or email me the helpfile that I should have gotten with your product?

I am running under Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1. My suggested problem/resolution is related to the Taskbar Re-emerging (I have no idea if this is related to the same problem the current reader is having). I hope the following helps others in trying to get Taskbar Eliminator to work. By the way I am using the free version.

I had set Taskbar Eliminator to start with Windows. When I logged into Windows, Taskbar Eliminator worked but only initially - after 40 seconds, the taskbar ALWAYS re-emerged. So I started making notes as to the exact time (based on my system time) that the taskbar re-emerged. I then cross referenced this time with the events in my system event log (I used a filter based on the time I had noted, see image below):

This led me to see that the following event was happening at the same time the taskbar was re-emerging:

Notice the mention of the taskbar … obviously something is happening here that related to the very thing I was trying to get working. For the unknowing, CCC.exe is ATI's Catalyst Control Center (the Graphics Control Panel for ATI Graphics Cards). So after I found this out, I went into msconfig and disabled CCC.exe as a start up program. From then on, and a few restarts later and counting, I haven't had a problem with Taskbar Eliminator since.

I am not saying that CCC.exe is causing the problem for everyone, but I am saying that you might be able to find out what is causing your taskbar to re-appear using the method that I used.

Excellent software.. is it possible to have the TASKBAR elimator load with WINDOWS 7 and go to HIDE TASKBAR mode

just another problem… When I put the TE in autostart (no matter if via GPO or via shortcut), the taskbar isn´t eliminated properly… It is just hided (the auto-hide feature from W7), but not completely disabled as if it should be. When I start TE manually or when I click the shortcut, it works perfect.

I just wanted to rename the "Taskbar Eliminator.exe" to "Taskbar_Eliminator.exe"… But after renaming, I get an error when I launch the app that the app can´t load its icon - try it by yourself :)

But every time I start the machine the taskbar disappears. That is, the [Don't start..] button is not doing what it is supposed to do.

As I only need the program occasionally this is an irritant.

I am running Windows 7 Enterprise (32 bit) with two monitors: 1920x1200 primary, 1280x1024 secondary. My text size is set to Medium (125%); I have not tried setting it to Small (100%). I tried running the program in compatibility mode but had no luck.

It displays correctly if I open it on my Windows XP VM, but raises issues about not being able to find JSON.

The Alt+t and ctrl+alt+t hotkeys worked the very first time I used them but after that all I'm getting is a ping. Also, the Start button on the taskbar has gone.

Any ideas how to fix this? Can TE be uninstalled?

I just wanted to tell you that I love your taskbar eliminator software! You are the last resource to all pro users that value each pixel on the screen. Since M$ removed the "always on top" feature from the taskbar in W7 (it is turned ON by default and cannot be turned OFF), there were many discussions that eventually led to a hack that saved the day for millions, including myself (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/54842-taskbar-always-top-disable-enable.html). Unfortunately, that hack stopped working after SP1. That is when i started searching for a solution and I have found your software, that saved the day again.

I hope you don't mind me making a request/idea for you - if your hotkeys could at least resemble the standard Windows combination for invoking the start menu together with start bar (control+escape) and provide a similar use case (unhide the taskbar together with popping start menu), imho that would be awesome. You could provide back for the community what M$ took away in W7 completely.

I really like this tweaking app. It's well thought out and works quite well.

I'm just wondering if it is at all possible to make it not resize the active desktop area (right now it expands and squishes the desktop icons every time you hide and show the taskbar) by having a setting that keeps entire desktop area fully usable by the desktop icons and any open windows if it is enabled.

This would also get rid of windows remaining squished after showing and hiding the taskbar.

If I use the built-in auto-hide this doesn't occur, but then I have that single pixel tall top portion of the taskbar peeking out at the bottom of the screen and the taskbar notifications make the taskbar appear. Both of which are annoying and are the reasons why I installed Taskbar Eliminator.

I like being able to toggle the taskbar on and off, so the custom builds don't fulfill my needs unfortunately.
