Hi, I have Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2. Taskbar Eliminator does exactly what I want it to do and I love the simplistic preferences, however the program only completely hides my taskbar for a few minutes. I have the program set to "Hide Taskbar"+"Start with Windows", but I constantly have to keep pressing alt+t to hide the taskbar again and again. It's probably my own fault but am I actually doing something wrong, or how can I fix this? I do love this program and it works better than all the other programs like it that I have used.
Hi Alan,
Could you give us any more information regarding this issue? Does the taskbar reappearance seem to be triggered by an event (balloon tips etc)? Do you have any other applications which could be altering the taskbar or triggering the hotkey?
Thanks :)
It doesn't seem to be triggered by anything as far as I can tell. I turned off all of my program processes and just stared at my desktop for a few minutes before the taskbar popped up again. The only programs that I think might possibly affect it are VistaGlazz, Leftsider or Stardock Fences. Also, the taskbar is also on my screen on startup even though I have the program set to "Start with Windows" and I have it listed in my startup programs folder.
Hi Alan,
You seem to have an extremely odd problem, especially if ALL other programs were closed which might have inadvertently refreshed the taskbar. We'll look into it.. :)
In regards to the taskbar showing on startup, simply resize the taskbar to the smallest possible size, and the lock it, before running TB Eliminator. The taskbar should then be hidden on startup as well.
Thanks!
I've tried minimizing the taskbar and locking it, but it still pops up. I'm thinking the program might not have installed correctly. I'll try reinstalling it and I will let you know if that works.
Taskbar Eliminator does not install, its a portable program. You won't be able to 'reinstall it'. When you say it pops up, what do you mean? That the tiny little sliver of taskbar that you can see when its totally minimized appears, or the full taskbar?
The full taskbar comes up. Would it make a difference if I placed the taskbar somewhere else?
If the full taskbar is showing, despite you resizing the taskbar to nothing, it is not a problem with Taskbar Eliminator. There must be some other program or setting on your system which is causing this issue. There is simply nothing which would cause this problem in Taskbar Eliminator.
Good luck with solving your issue! Thanks :)
I have the same problem, except im running on Windows 7.
I've figured out a couple reasons as to Why its failing.
1. Windows key + Tab on lesser machines seems to make the taskbar pop up.
2. sometimes theres a pop up that doesn't show up when gaming, say a windows update, and when you exit the game, the taskbar reappears.
3. alt+tab sometimes affects it too.
4. I'm on a new computer as of now and I'm no longer having the windows + tab problem but I'm having the same 1 problem that I've had on both machines; it doesn't hide it on start up.
The program will open up on start up but it wont hide it. First time i used it on this machine it worked fine. after i shut down, the next morning when i turned it on, the taskbar had returned.
Instead of hiding it on start up and every other time it fails to hide it, it instead checks off the auto-hide windows checkbox in preference.
I hope this helps as its really annoying when it randomly decided to un-hide and check off auto-hide. if you need tech specs of my computer, ill reply with them.
I love the program, but I have a similar problem as Alan, though i know whats causing the problem. Every time i use the volume keys on my keyboard, or lock and relogin to my desktop the taskbar will reappear. I change the volume often of course, so i have to push Alt-T constantly to rehide the taskbar. Any way to fix this?
Hi John,
Thanks for the extra info, we're fixing as many of these bugs as we can in each release. Logging out and then in again will definitely cause the taskbar to be shown again, as Windows Explorer is fully closed and opened again - theres nothing you can do at the moment. The volume issue we haven't heard before, we'll look into it! Thanks! :)
Hi I'm using windows 7. When I enable the eliminator, everything works fine but then when I press the windows key the orb shows up by itself. I'm actually fine with that. As a matter of fact it looks great. But the thing is when I tried this the next day the orb was on top of all the windows that were open. Is this a bug to begin with that I'm finding useful? If it's not then how do I prevent the windows orb from being "always on top".
Thanks!
Hi Steve,
No - the orb showing isn't a bug, we've designed it that way for Windows Vista & 7. Unfortunately there isn't a way to display the orb not on top of all other Windows - basically there just isn't a way to do this in Windows (or at least we haven't discovered it).
If this annoys you too much, the only thing I can recommend is removing the orb totally with one of our Taskbar Eliminator Custom Builds - its only $5 US.
Good Luck! :)
There is an answer, which you may or may not like.
Taskbar Eliminator worked wonderfully for me, but everytime something popped up in my system tray, like Ares or if I disconnected my laptop from the power source (thereby revealing the battery level), it would "break". The only solution I've found is disabling the system tray, using a registry hack: http://www.techmixer.com/disable-system-tray-icons-on-windows-xp-vista/
If you don't want to risk hacking your system, don't try it, but its very safe and very easy to reverse, IMO.
However, the TE still breaks if you log out of your system or put it on standby, but if you've put TE on a simple hotkey, like I have, it shouldn't be much of a problem, as you can just refresh it.
Again, TE still breaks for me, inexplicably, when I switch on Photoshop CS5. No other program, and certainly no previous version of Photoshop, does this.

Running into a slight issue. When I run taskbar eliminator it works perfectly fine. Until I run something that goes into fullscreen. Any time I play a fullscreen game or run a fullscreen program when I exit the taskbar has popped back up again. Any way to fix this?
Hi! The program is very cool, it's what I needed to customize my desktop even further. I have a question though: how can I set Taskbar Eliminator to hide itself when my computer starts up? It hides the taskbar as expected on startup, but the window keeps open until I command it to hide. Can you help me please?
